Last year, the compassionate spirit of 11-year-old Isaac Winfield shone brightly as he transformed his garden shed into a food bank, providing assistance to the underprivileged during the challenging COVID-19 lockdowns.
In a heartwarming continuation of his altruistic efforts, Isaac is now gearing up to establish a “gift bank” aimed at supporting parents who are financially strained and unable to afford presents for their children. This initiative will run alongside the expansion of his fifth shed-born food bank.
December holds special significance for Isaac, not only marking his birthday month but also encompassing the festive season and the anniversary of the launch of his initial food bank. Remarkably, he kickstarted the food bank using funds received on his birthday.
Witnessing the profound impact of his charitable endeavors, Isaac extended his reach by opening additional food banks in his hometown of Redditch, Worcestershire, England. His acute awareness of the community’s needs motivated him to provide a helping hand to those facing adversity.
The recent inauguration of his gift bank signifies another milestone in Isaac’s philanthropic journey. Collaborating with the local Greenland Pub, he secured a space to store the numerous toys and gifts generously donated by contributors, catering to the needs of struggling families in his community. Isaac’s dedication to spreading joy and alleviating hardships continues to inspire and uplift those around him.
“Christmas can be a stressful time and Isaac wanted to help as many people as possible have a celebration without worrying about what is under the tree,” said Claire, Isaac’s mom.
“He is absolutely ecstatic seeing his shelves full of toys and gifts for families. His dedication his weekends and spare time to helping is the best Christmas present he could have asked for.”
Claire reported that 200 children arrived on the opening day of their current establishment.
“The response has been phenomenal. We’ll be holding present bank days another three times at this same pub and put on more dates if there’s still the demand,” says Claire.
“We’ve had baby toys, books, dolls, teddies, Nerf guns, blankets, toiletries, there’s just a bit of everything here. It has all been quite overwhelming to see. “
“The fifth food bank has been opened alongside the YMCA and the support we’ve had for that has been incredible also.”
